Egypt is participating in the sixth Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and ICT (STC-CICT), convening in Libreville from October 26 to 30, 2026. Represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt joins ministers and experts to unify African positions on digital transformation and artificial intelligence ahead of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026.
Held under the theme “Africa’s Digital Future, Africa’s Voice: Advancing Innovation, Digital Inclusion and Shaping Africa’s Narrative,” the session will review implementation of the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa 2020–2030 and the Continental AI Strategy. Discussions will cover AI governance, data policy, cybersecurity, digital identity, and barriers facing women, youth, rural communities, and other underserved groups.

AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Lerato Dorothy Mataboge said the Libreville meeting is an opportunity to “set a clear course for the next phase of Africa’s digital transformation” and agree on concrete measures to accelerate implementation.
Egypt’s role carries particular weight: it chaired the African AI Working Group that drafted the Continental AI Strategy, adopted by the AU Executive Council in July 2024, and hosted the third STC session in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2019, where the 2020–2030 digital strategy was endorsed. The ministerial segment on October 29 will also prepare for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Doha.
