The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reiterated its dedication to upholding professionalism and integrity as cornerstones of Nigeria’s fight against economic and financial crimes.
This declaration followed a three-day Management Retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, concluded on March 15, 2025, led by the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and attended by senior directors.
Addressing the retreat’s theme, “EFCC: The Journey So Far, Ensuring Professionalism and Integrity,” Olukoyede emphasized that the agency’s credibility hinges on nurturing integrity. “Integrity is a fragile commodity we must safeguard to retain public trust. Our workforce must evolve into a motivated, honest, and efficient team,” he stated.
The retreat featured a candid review of the EFCC’s 2024 performance, highlighting milestones in asset recovery, prosecutions, and organizational restructuring. A press release by EFCC Head, Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale, GTVafrik gathered that about 4,111 convictions was secured and over N365.4 billion recovered during the year. Olukoyede praised staff dedication while urging heightened diligence to surpass past achievements and uphold procedural integrity.
Guest speakers underscored critical priorities. Professor Tonnie Iredia, addressing public perception, attributed misconceptions about the EFCC to misinformation and cynicism despite its anti-corruption strides. He lauded Olukoyede’s “transparent leadership” and urged broader citizen engagement in the graft fight. Legal luminary Femi Falana, SAN, traced the Commission’s evolution, applauding its resilience and progress. He pledged to address judicial bottlenecks hindering the EFCC’s mandate.
Discussions also centered on digital innovation, with plans to adopt advanced technology for investigations, alongside improved staff welfare and brand equity. Olukoyede expressed optimism about transformative outcomes, declaring, “In six months, we will deliver a brand-new EFCC to Nigeria.”
The retreat concluded with commitments to ethical rigor, operational efficiency, and systemic reforms, reinforcing the agency’s resolve to combat corruption while fostering public confidence. By prioritizing professionalism and adaptability, the EFCC aims to solidify its role as a global model in anti-graft enforcement.
