Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti (represented by Deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu), has inaugurated the board of the State Sports Association, charging members to prioritise youth development and grassroots talent discovery. The Commissioner for Sports, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, stressed that the new boards must reduce government burden by sourcing partnerships and funding.
Among the 35 chairmen and members inaugurated across various disciplines, Chief Dr. Onyekachi Iheme was named Chairman of the Amateur Kickboxing Association. His team includes Prince Moses Ogoke—CEO of Gtvafrik, a pan-African media production company—alongside Vice Chairman Hon. Chizaram Akpulonu and other members.
Chief Iheme pledged to leverage his experience to promote kickboxing and sports development. The government reaffirmed its commitment to creating a supportive environment for athletes, with officials urging transparency, accountability, and grassroots focus. Former taekwondo international Chaka Chukwumerije delivered the vote of thanks, while Tennis Association Chairman Chief Samson Anagha assured diligent leadership. The inauguration marks a new era for Abia sports.
