At Windsor Castle on Tuesday, King Charles honored several stars, including Idris Elba, who received a knighthood for his youth work. Best known for The Wire and Luther, the 53-year-old founded the Elba Hope Foundation in 2022. He once received a grant from The King’s Trust, and will now team up with Charles for a Netflix documentary.
Olympic ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were also knighted and damehooded for their skating and voluntary service. Their legendary Bolero routine won gold in 1984. After retiring from the ice last year, Dame Jayne called the timing “perfect.”
Actress and comedian Meera Syal—famed for Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No. 42—became a dame for services to literature, drama, and charity. A BAFTA Fellow and Alzheimer’s Society ambassador, she has long supported dementia-related causes.
Meanwhile, Paul Chuckle (Paul Elliott), 78, of the Chuckle Brothers, received an MBE for charitable service. A Marie Curie ambassador, he credits the charity’s nurses for their “incredible care” of his late brother Barry. The beloved duo’s ChuckleVision ran for nearly 300 episodes.
