Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recorded a strong start to its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), with 69,376 citizens pre-registering online within the first seven hours on August 18, 2025.
Demographic data revealed women slightly outnumbered men (51.3% female vs. 48.7% male), and youth engagement was high, with 69.2% (48,033) of registrants aged 18-34.The online portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) remains accessible 24/7. For those preferring in-person assistance, physical registration begins August 25, 2025, at INEC’s 811 state and local offices nationwide (weekdays, 9 am – 3 pm). This option caters to both new registrations and completion for online pre-registrants, as both methods will run simultaneously.
INEC committed to providing weekly progress updates, including breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.The commission reiterated that registration is only for unregistered Nigerian citizens aged 18+, and double/multiple registration is illegal. Existing voters can request inter/intra-state transfers or replacement of lost/damaged cards during the CVR.The high initial turnout indicates significant public interest, particularly among youth and women.
