Poland has invoked NATO’s Article 4 for urgent consultations following an unprecedented violation of its airspace. The move comes after the country’s air defences were scrambled in response to at least 19 breaches during a major Russian missile and drone attack on western Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk labelled the intrusions a deliberate Russian “provocation,” stating many of the drones entered from Belarusian territory. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte condemned the “reckless and dangerous” behaviour, affirming the alliance’s vigilance and readiness to “defend every inch of NATO territory.”The Kremlin refused to comment on the incident, while EU leaders strongly condemned the violations. The emergency NATO meeting underscores the serious risk of the war in Ukraine spilling over into allied territory.
