Following an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Kasai Province, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public advisory. As of September 4, 2025, the outbreak has resulted in 28 suspected cases and 15 fatalities.
The NCDC Director General, Jide Idris, confirmed there are currently no cases of Ebola in Nigeria. However, the nation is on high alert. Surveillance has been intensified at all points of entry, healthcare facilities, and within local communities to prevent any potential spread.The outbreak has been confirmed as the Ebola Zaire strain, for which an effective vaccine, Ervebo, is available. The NCDC is monitoring the situation closely alongside international partners and continues to assure the public that Nigeria remains safe from the virus at this time.
