Apple to Integrate Multiple AI Models for Smarter iPhones

In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed the company plans to integrate multiple third-party AI models into its new “Apple Intelligence” system. While a partnership with OpenAI’s ChatGPT is already set, Apple is now in discussions with Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and Perplexity AI.

This strategy marks a significant shift for Apple, which has traditionally relied on its own technology. By incorporating leading external models, Apple aims to provide iPhone users with the best available AI experiences. Siri will become more powerful, intelligently routing user queries to the most suitable AI—for instance, using ChatGPT for creative tasks or Gemini for factual searches.

This hybrid approach relies on both on-device processing for everyday tasks and a secure system called Private Cloud Compute for more complex requests that require external models. A key promise is maintaining Apple’s strict privacy standards; users must give permission before any data is shared, and Private Cloud Compute ensures personal information is not stored or used to train other AI models.

For users, this means a smarter, more responsive Siri and iPhone, capable of assisting with writing, summarization, and planning more effectively, all while prioritizing data security in the competitive AI landscape.
