Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed the 2026 World Cup will be his final one. The Portugal striker, now 40, made the announcement at the Riyadh Tourise Summit, stating, “Definitely, yes,” when asked. He plans to retire from football entirely in “one or two years.”
Should he compete in the tournament across Canada, Mexico, and the USA, it would mark his sixth World Cup appearance. Ronaldo, football’s all-time leading men’s international scorer with 143 goals, continues to chase a landmark 1,000 career goals.
While the World Cup remains a missing trophy for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, his focus is first on helping Portugal secure qualification.
