Airbus has urgently directed airlines to address a software issue affecting flight controls on thousands of its A320 jets, the world’s most popular passenger planes. The manufacturer warned that intense solar radiation can corrupt critical flight data.
Approximately 6,000 aircraft are affected globally. While most require a quick software revert, about 1,000 older jets need new hardware. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has ordered the fix be completed before an affected plane’s next flight.
This emergency directive comes during a peak U.S. travel period, potentially causing disruptions. American Airlines, the largest operator, is working to limit cancellations. The issue was highlighted by a recent JetBlue flight that made an emergency landing. Airlines assure passenger safety remains the paramount priority throughout the updates.
