In a press release issued to Gtvafrik through EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged citizens to embrace greater accountability to restore order and stability in Nigeria.
Speaking at the Nigeria Air Force Officers’ Mess Honourary Members’ Forum Annual Lecture Series in Lagos on Friday, December 19, 2025, Olukoyede identified corruption—not just ethnic or religious strife—as the primary driver of insecurity. He argued that stolen security votes and diverted public funds fuel poverty and violence.
Represented by Director of Public Affairs CE Wilson Uwujaren, the Chairman criticized the abuse of security votes, citing the prosecution of a former governor for allegedly misappropriating over N4 billion. He outlined EFCC’s non-kinetic approaches to fighting terrorism, including monitoring illicit financial flows, Bureau de Change operators, and NGOs in the Northeast.
Olukoyede highlighted the Commission’s economic interventions, such as recovering vast sums and properties, supporting the Central Bank’s monetary policy, and combating currency racketeering. He noted that deliberate measures—like not shutting down businesses under investigation—have preserved jobs and livelihoods.
The Chairman was commended by the forum’s chairman, Dr. Goke T. Akinrogun, and Chief Host Air Commodore Ewejide Akintunde for his insightful presentation.
