The DRC government has reaffirmed that lasting peace in the country’s volatile eastern region can only be achieved through dialogue. This follows Rwanda’s acknowledgment that Kinshasa has suspended all offensive operations in the east.
Rwanda also praised the M23 rebel group’s decision to withdraw its forces from Walikale, calling it a positive step toward peace.
President Félix Tshisekedi emphasized the importance of stability, stating, “This is a crucial issue for us. Without peace, progress in Africa is impossible. We need peace, and we are moving in the right direction.”
The developments signal a potential de-escalation in the conflict, with both regional and rebel forces showing willingness to engage in peaceful resolutions.
